In 1994, I matriculated at Harvard Medical School with the express intention of studying psychiatry. I graduated in 1999. Although it was an unpopular choice among my classmates for residency training, my interest in psychiatry remained strong throughout my medical school education. Fortunately for me, I had wonderful experiences rotating through McLean Hospital in Belmont, MA and the Cambridge Hospital in Cambridge, MA. The experiences at both of these institutions taught me quite a bit about the humanistic approach to treating patients who were undergoing a mental illness.
