I was born in Cleveland, Ohio and lived in a suburb there for five months, before I moved to South India, to live with my maternal grandparents in Kannur, Kerala, a seaside town along the North Malabar Coast of the Arabian Sea. I lived there for seven years and had a sort of idyllic childhood that only a tropical, developing country could have provided. Thereafter, I returned to the States to join my mother, father and sister in an East Side suburb of Cleveland. I went to public schools, had early interests in computer science and music, and attended Case Western Reserve University for my undergraduate studies. I majored in biochemistry and psychology, minored in French, graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa and received departmental awards in both my majors.
